Press Release Summary: Thousands of Ghanaians welcome Head of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community for Centenary Convention
Press Release Body: The Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad arrived in Ghana at 8.05pm on Tuesday 15 April 2008. His Holiness was immediately received by Mr Abdul Wahab Adam, the President of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association Ghana, the Honourable Alhaj Malik Al-Hassan Yakubu the 2nd Deputy Speaker of Parliament & Vice President of the African Parliament and the Honourable Tahir Hammond, the Deputy Minister for the Interior. Further, there were thousands of local Ahmadis who had come to receive His Holiness and who expressed their happiness by raising Islamic slogans and waving flags.
A press conference was immediately convened with members of the Ghanaian Press where His Holiness extended his best wishes to all the people of Ghana and said that even though people called his trip to Ghana in 2004 a homecoming, His Holiness felt that this too was another homecoming.
His Holiness mentioned how this was the Centenary Year of the system of spiritual succession known as \'Khilafat\' that begun upon the passing of the Founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadhrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad of Qadian in 1908. The year therefore was extremely important for Ahmadis throughout the world. His Holiness said he felt it was Allah\'s Design that the first Convention he attended in this Centenary year was to be in Ghana where he had lived for a number of years.
In response to another question His Holiness spoke of his heartfelt belief that the Islamic teachings of love and compassion would, God Willing, win the hearts and minds of peoples of all faiths from all around the world. His Holiness then praised the Ghanaian people for their peaceful co-existence and said that he hoped that this peaceful spirit would ever increase as this would lead to the betterment and prosperity of the people of Ghana.
Upon arrival at the Ahmadiyya Central Mosque in Accra, His Holiness was welcomed by thousands of Ahmadis who saluted their leader as he walked amongst them. Slogans depicting the truth of Ahmadiyyat were raised as those present were overtaken by the joy of seeing their spiritual master. The pledge of allegiance to His Holiness was repeated by the emotional before Exhibitions of Karate and Wrestling took place.
The scenes witnessed upon the arrival of His Holiness in Ghana will live forever in the memory of those who were present. The outpouring of love and total loyalty and devotion to the institution of Khilafat was there for all to see.
